From the bathroom, I heard a noise like a moan. It hit me like a bolt of lightning and made me freeze in place where I stood. Was he in there with someone?
I didn’t know if I should continue, but I needed to know if he was in there and what he was doing, so I willed my feet to move and quietly walked over to the door to listen for any more noises. He moaned again, deeper than the first time, but it didn’t seem like a sound of pleasure.
Was he hurt?
Slowly, I opened the door to see him lying in the bathtub, his eyes closed as the water filled in the space around him. His muscular body looked just as I’d imagined it—tanned and rugged, like every muscle strained against his skin—but his right shoulder looked swollen and his face had bruises all over it.
I didn’t know if I should apologize for prying or offer to help him. He opened his eyes and turned to look at me as I stared at him, effectively eliminating my indecision as to what to do.
“I would ask what you’re doing in my bathroom, but from what it looks like, you’re back to studying me. See anything you like?”
Averting my gaze from traveling over the muscular and tanned peaks and valleys of his washboard abs to between his legs, I focused on his bruised face. “Was it your smart mouth that got you beaten up like that?”
He winced at my mention of his injuries and shook his head. “Nope. Why don’t you give me a couple minutes and I’ll come out seeing as you don’t look like you intend on leaving?”
